The Collierville Food Pantry (CFP) provides assistance with nutrition to approximately 350 area families living below the poverty line.  The partnership between Holy Apostles and the CFP began when the church relocated to the area, and has strengthened throughout the years.  Today, Holy Apostles stands as an essential core supporter of the CFP, providing food, volunteer support and an annual monetary grant.

Lenten Food Drive

In the Lenten Season, Holy Apostles conducts a Food Drive to help the Collierville Food Pantry feed hungry families in our local area.  This year’s drive began Ash Wednesday and will conclude on Easter Sunday, April 12th.  Our goal is 2020 pounds of food, which will provide more than 1,700 nutritious meals for the Food Pantry’s client families.

Our theme this year – “The Way of Love in Lent” – helps us connect the “Way of Love” transformational model we’re currently studying to our annual Food Drive.  For those interested, there is an excellent, short online video series on “The Way of Love in Lent”.

The videos for Bless and Go – are particularly relevant for our Lenten Food Drive.  Bless asks us “…to bless everyone we meet, practicing generosity and compassion…”; while Go invites us “…to be the hands, feet, eyes and bodies of Jesus…” and “…to help heal the places of brokenness in our world…”  Bishop Roaf echoed these powerful messages in her sermon during her recent visit to Holy Apostles.

A good way to establish a Lenten routine that answers the call of “Bless” and “Go” is through regular food contributions throughout Lent.  If every family that attends Sunday Worship services would bring along five cans or boxes of food each time they come to church, we would make our goal.

You will find collection containers in the hallway leading to the Parish Life Center and the Narthex.  Look for communications on our progress each week.  Thanks in advance for your generosity!!
