CLUB 56 & YOUTH PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
CLUB 56 (Grades 5 and 6)
Club 56 bridges the gap between elementary and middle school. In addition to regular Sunday School, students in this age group participate in once a month Sunday afternoon activities designed to create a sense of community that cannot be developed simply during Sunday morning classes and worship.
Club 56 Christian Formation classes use the Live It! series. This series allows students to understand how their faith impacts their everyday life and how to make godly decisions in today’s world. Every six weeks a new theme will be explored. The first theme will be “Talking with God.”
Club 56 afternoon activities offer the opportunity for fun and fellowship. Activities will take place both at church and at places and events in the area. Putt putt, a corn maze with hay rides, and caroling are just some of the activities already planned.
YOUTH (Grades 7 – 12)
Youth participate in a variety of activities and educational offerings that provide the opportunity to explore faith, fellowship, and service.
Rite 13 (Grades 7 and 8)
The name comes from a liturgical rite of passage we celebrate with the young people around their 13th birthday. This rite, loosely based on the bar/bat mitzvah tradition, is a way for the congregation to celebrate the unique gifts and abilities of these youth. Rite 13 provides a liturgical framework for the teenage experience of modern culture and celebrates their individuality and their creative potential. During these two years we create a safe haven in which youth can explore new ideas, new interests and new abilities. They meet in the conference room with Paula Vaughan, Anna Underwood and James Underwood.
Journey to Adulthood (J2A) (Grades 9 – 12)
J2A enables young people to discover and experience the love of God and provides sacred space for teens to question, wonder and work on their relationships with God and with each other. During J2A, teens learn and practice skills for adulthood: active listening, negotiation, assertion, research & information, management, partnership, and leadership. Teens learn different methods of Scripture reading, prayer and community-building. They meet in the Youth Room with Anne Cook, Matt Stone and Michael Warrillow.
Junior EYC (Grades 7 and 8)
Senior EYC (Grades 9 – 12)
Junior and Senior EYC activities combine fellowship, spirituality, and outreach to help youth strengthen their relationship with God, their families, and friends. The youth build uplifting friendships through games, lock-ins, outreach, worship, and shared experiences.
Junior EYC meets most Sundays from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
Senior EYC alternates between meeting at 12 p.m. and at 6 p.m.
Please check the calendar for dates and times.
CONFIRMATION
Our youth use Keeping The Promise which is a mentoring program for Confirmation in the Episcopal Church. This unique program pairs each perspective Confirmand with a Confirmed adult mentor, who gives the Confirmand caring support throughout the learning process. With the younger and older Christians working together, the common inheritance of the Christian Faith can be fully explored on a personal basis. Teenagers connect with the traditions of the Episcopal Church and with the mentors, who create an environment that is relaxed, where confidence can grow and learning can occur. The youth pick their mentor, complete a service activity and meet with the Rector to discuss what they have learned prior to Confirmation. Youth are eligible for confirmation between ninth and tenth grade.
MISSION TRIPS
An important part of youth formation is serving others both nearby and far away. The youth participate in many local service projects throughout the year. In the summer of 2007 we spent a week in Reynosa, Mexico working at a home for abused girls. In the summer of 2008 we spent five days in Perryville, Arkansas at the Heifer Ranch. Along with this trip we also raised $5,000.00 for an ark full of animals for Heifer International. In summer 2009 we went to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to Mission On The Bay, where we helped rebuild areas damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
