Bible Study

Tuesdays and Thursdays

The Adult Bible Study class was created to provide parishioners with a Lectionary based curriculum called "Feasting on the Word". It encourages a lively discussion of weekly scripture lessons prior to the assigned Sunday readings and sermon content. This format helps participants engage in corporate worship each week more prepared to hear and respond to God's word. The group meets each week:

  • Small group Bible Study on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 pm at the church in Father John's office
  • Women's small group Bible Study on Thursday mornings at 11:00 am at the church in the conference room
  • Small group Bible Study on Thursday afternoons at 3:30 pm at Kirby Pines Senior Living (3535 Kirby Parkway, Memphis)
  • Small group Bible Study on Thursday evenings at 6:30 pm at the church in the conference room

Each week we consider the designated lesson from four different perspectives:

  • What is important to know? (Exegetical Perspective)
  • Where is God in these words? (Theological Perspective)
  • So what does this mean for our lives? (Pastoral Perspective)
  • Now what is God's word calling us to do? (Homiletical Perspective)

While the discussion format provides structure, the discussion each week is open and free flowing. The group is facilitated by Tom Carpenter and is open to all interested people, regardless of whether Bible study is something brand new or a lifelong practice. Anyone looking for an interactive small group format in which to read, study and discuss in a safe and nurturing environment is encouraged to join us.
