Lenten Food Drive

Go for the Gold in 2018!

The Collierville Food Pantry helps fight hunger in Collierville and nearby East Shelby County by providing a healthy, nutritionally balanced food supplement to those families in our area who live below the poverty line. Last year the Food Pantry gave away more than fifty thousand pounds of food which supported over 350 area families.

As you watch this year’s Winter Olympics games unfold, we hope you’ll remember our theme of “Go for the Gold in 2018”. Each one of us can be an Olympic Hero to hungry families in our area with our donations. We’re hoping for an Olympic Gold Medal in Fighting Hunger from Team Holy Apostles. Our “Gold Medal” goal is 2018 pounds of food for this very important cause.

Large boxes will be set up in the hallway that runs from the kitchen to the PLC where you can drop off your donations. Additionally, another box will be set up in the Narthex, for those who enter the sanctuary from the front door. Each week during Lent we’ll empty the boxes, weigh the contents and deliver our donations to the Food Pantry. Every Sunday we’ll give you the Team Holy Apostles status in our quest for 2018 lbs. of food and the Olympic Gold.

The Food Pantry needs non-perishable food of any kind to support its mission. Additionally, personal care items and toilet tissue paper are always welcomed.

Through the years, your generosity has made Holy Apostles one of the core organizations that supports the Food Pantry. We need your help. Make this year’s Lenten Food Drive a part of your personal Lenten discipline.

(Donations already made to the Food Drive will count as contribution to our overall goal.)

Special Emphasis:

High Protein Meat-Based Items

While all non-perishable canned or boxed food items are valued and used at the Collierville Food Pantry, they are always chronically low on meat-based high-protein items. The attached list represents the items most in short supply on an everyday basis.

We recognize that on a pound-for-pound basis, the items on the list are priced considerably higher than most other canned or boxed goods.  To help offset the price disparity, any of the items on the list below will count double their weight when donated to the food drive.

  • Canned Chicken or Turkey Breast
  • Canned Beef Stew
  • Canned Luncheon Meat or Spam
  • Vienna Sausages
  • Corned Beef Hash
  • Chili with Meat/Turkey/Chicken
  • Chicken & Dumplings Dinner
  • Canned Pink Salmon (Note: Supplies of Tuna are Adequate)
