We will begin a two-week series led by Dr. Charles Hughes from Rhodes College on the music of the Civil Rights Movement. For the first week, Dr. Hughes will present "Freedom Songs: The Music That Inspired Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement," and during the second week "Sounds of Freedom: How the Movement Changed the Music.” Dr. Charles L. Hughes is the Director of the Lynne and Henry Turley Memphis Center at Rhodes College, where he designs courses, programs, and partnerships. The work of Memphis Center Postdoctoral Fellow Dr. Charles Hughes continues to garner national attention. A recent review on NPR recently lauded an essay by Hughes as a highlight of a newly-published anthology on race and country music.
Sunday, April 29th
We will be joined by John Aitken, Superintendent of Schools for Collierville. In the Fall of 2018, Collierville will open its new high school campus. Come and hear about this and all the changes that are planned for Collierville Schools for next year.
